We Are Committed to One Another with Hope in God!
As we journey into this sacred Lenten season, I am reminded that God never calls us to walk alone. Scripture teaches, “We are many members, but one body”—woven together in Christ, strengthened by His Spirit, and sustained by hope that does not disappoint. Lent invites us to rediscover this truth in a deeper way: we belong to God, and in belonging to God, we belong to one another.
In a world where division, hurriedness, and uncertainty tug at our hearts, the Church stands as a living witness that mutual commitment is possible—not because we are perfect, but because our hope is anchored in the promises of God. We trust in the One who leads us through wilderness seasons and faithfully shapes us through them.
This year, as we follow Jesus toward the cross and the empty tomb, I invite each of us to make three sacred commitments—both personal and communal—so that our Lenten walk becomes a strengthening of our life together.
1. A Commitment to Prayer: Seeking God Together
-
Lent calls us to turn down the noise and turn our hearts toward God.
-
Let us commit to: 1) Daily prayer for our church family, 2) Praying for healing—spiritual, emotional, and physical, and 3) Pausing each day to listen for God’s voice.
-
When we pray for one another, we carry each other’s burdens to the One who has the power to transform them. Prayer is not simply our duty; it is our lifeline and our unshakeable hope.
2. A Commitment to Spiritual Renewal: Returning to God with Open Hearts
-
Lent is a time of honest reflection-a sacred invitation to return to God with sincerity, humility, and expectation.
-
This season, let us embrace: 1) Personal repentance and forgiveness, 2) Re-examining our priorities, and 3) Time in Scripture, fasting, and worship.
-
As we release what weighs us down, God renews our strength. As we surrender old patterns, God creates new possibilities. When God restores one of us, we all are blessed.
3. A Commitment to Compassionate Community: Walking with One Another
-
Our theme reminds us that our hope in God moves us to commit to each other. Lent is not only about what we give up-it's about what we give to one another.
-
This season, let us practice: 1) Intentional encouragement, 2 Acts of service within the congregation, 3) Reconciliation where relationships need healing, and 4) Generosity to those in need.
-
When we commit to one another, we reflect the heart of Christ, who chose to love us sacrificially and unconditionally.
